I just rip then rip again using the final MKV and removing most audio and subtitles. Also I’ve seen people talk about compressing files, but I don’t do this either. I know I’ve read about transcoding, but I still really don’t understand what it means. Would I have any issues playing my MKVs from either drive? So far I have not seen any issues with my external HDD. I‘m more interested in the 24TB vs 15TB but understand the NAS’ are different models and not the newest. Currently I’m looking at a DS412+ With 4 - 6TB WD red drives for $500 or a 1511+ with 5 - 3TB WD red drives for $580. I’m interested in upgrading but with a used Synology NAS. The external drive I already had and was planned to be my starting drive.
Then been playing movies using Infuse on Apple TV. I’m new to ripping but so far I have been ripping my Blu-ray’s with MakeMKV then storing on a 3TB WD External drive that I connected via USB to me router.
